1997 – 2001

Managing Director and Head of Energy Division, Institut Wohnen und Umwelt, Darmstadt. Sustainable building and living in new and existing buildings. Low-energy and passive houses. Technology, economic and political consulting, coordination of national working groups, supervision of Eastern European reconstruction projects (Ukraine, Belarus) and the Impulse Programme Hessen.

1986 – 1996

Industry managing director of “Cadlab” later “C-LAB”, the joint research institute of Siemens (first Nixdorf) and the University of Paderborn. Build-up of the laboratory to more than 150 employees and student assistants. Management of major European projects, research and development in the fields of Computer Aided Design, Computer Aided Concurrent Engineering and Cooperative Computing and Communication, multimedia, management of European fundamental R&D projects with partners from 15 countries, EU expert, consultance for Nixdorf and various Siemens Groups.

1983 – 1985

Scientist and project leader at Philips Central Research Laboratory Eindhoven (NL): Microelectronics, development of software systems for computer-aided design of ultra-integrated circuits.

1977 – 1983

Scientist at the Philips Research Laboratory Aachen: Rational energy use and use of renewable energy sources in buildings, active and passive solar energy use, heat pumps, buildings without heating, theory-experiment comparisons, system studies Europe and North America. External doctorate as Dr.-Ing. at the Department of Environmental Engineering at the TU Berlin (1982).

1976 – 1977

Wissenschaftlicher Assistent für angewandte Mathematik an der Hochschule der Bundeswehr Hamburg.

1969 – 1976

Studied physics, mathematics, philosophy and English in Hamburg, Cambrige and Edinburgh, sponsored by the German Scholarship Foundation. Diploma in Physics at the 1st Inst. for Theoretical Physics Hamburg (with thesis and publication on relativistic astrophysics).
