Sustainable development …
- is the key task of the 21st century for the economy, politics and society.
- Economy, ecology and social issues are the key dimensions that need to be linked efficiently and effectively under challenging boundary conditions. Halving the ecological footprint, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by a factor of ten before the middle of the century – while at the same time closing a huge economic-social justice gap – are among the key demands.

The challenge of sustainability management: integration
… requires professional management
- that is based on clear definitions, analyses, weighs up and offers effective, efficient integrative solutions.
- Dr. Bernd Steinmüller Sustainability Management Consulting BSMC* takes on this task and – together with his partners and his founder – draws on decades of international management experience and own scientific work (see Sources) .
Current scientific principles are developed at the Centre for Sustainability Management CSM and taught in a globally unique MBA programme (awarded as a UNESCO Decade Project), in which Dr. Bernd Steinmüller also participated as a graduate, as a chairman of the CSM sustainability network CSM-Alumni e.V. and from 2011 to 2016 as chair of the associated SustainCo e.V. consultant network.
The Association of German Engineers (Verein Deutscher Ingenieure VDI) together with its associated standardisation committees for sustainability and its Centre for Resource Efficiency – which Dr. Bernd Steinmüller actively accompanied as an experienced expert, committee or advisory board member respectively – provides a translation into the application world.
Finally, as a member of the German Sustainable Building Council DGNB , as an accredited energy expert of the German Energy Agency DENA, awarded Passive House Pioneer and accredited Passive House Certifier of the Passive House Institute Dr. Steinmüller and BSMC are in a unique position to professionally manage and integrate sustainability issues into the important field of buildings.
